Work out how much to pay towards your next Self Assessment bill

Use this service to work out a fixed amount to pay each week or month towards your next Self Assessment tax bill.

You pay the amount through a Budget Payment Plan. This is a Direct Debit you set up in your HMRC online account. Your payments are used against your next tax bill, so you have less to pay by the deadline.

To set up a Budget Payment Plan, you must be up to date with payments from your last Self Assessment tax bill.

It takes around 5 to 10 minutes.

Start now

Before you start

You may need:

  • your tax calculation for the 2025 to 2026 tax year, or your HMRC online account
  • your income so far in the 2026 to 2027 tax year, if you want to plan for more than your next bill
Warning This is an estimate. It does not set up a Budget Payment Plan or tell HMRC anything.

If you cannot pay your tax bill

If you have missed a payment deadline or cannot pay what you owe, you might be able to set up a payment plan with HMRC.
