UK Self Assessment Tax Calculator is the data controller for this service.
What we collect and why
We use the answers you give only to work out your estimate. We keep them only while you use the service: they can no longer be used 15 minutes after you last use it, and are then deleted in the service’s regular clean-up, which runs every 5 minutes while the service is running. We do not send them to HMRC’s tax records.
If you choose to fill in answers from HMRC records, you sign in and give permission first. We only get information about you, and we only use it to fill in this estimate.
If another app sends you here
Another app you use may send you here, for example to work out a payment plan amount. If it does, it may pass us information it already has, such as your Self Assessment account. Then you do not have to give it again. We only send your result back to that app if you choose to. We keep it for up to 24 hours so the app can collect it, then delete it.
If you create an account
We keep your email address, your password, the figures you save and your forecasts. We store your password so that no one can read it. We encrypt your email address and your figures.
If you upload bank transactions, we only keep the totals, not the transactions.
We send emails, such as a link to confirm your email address, through GOV.UK Notify.
You can download or delete your information at any time from your account. If you do not use your account for 2 years, we delete it and everything in it.
An accountant or other organisation may use this service for you. If they do, they are responsible for the information they send us about you.
